The complex in rue des Sables / rue Saint-Laurent is in a dense urban area with a wealth of historic buildings, particularly the Comic Strip Museum, a masterpiece by architect Victor Horta (1861–1947). Two existing buildings and an old printworks were converted in order to offer three very different types of housing arranged around a very pleasant inner courtyard with plants. The first refurbished building (A), in rue Saint-Laurent, offers 26 loft apartments, with A2RC’s offices on the first three floors. The second building (B), in the central block, consists of 16 apartments finished as family homes. The third building (C), in rue des Sables, containing 39 conventional apartments, is entirely new and divided into three entities. An 89-space underground car park serves the apartments.
This subdivision project is located close to Calevoet railway station and the Lycée Français, on the site of the Engeland plateau. It includes 298 homes, comprising 236 apartments and 62 houses, to be built over nine years. All of this will cover 9 hectares, of which 6 hectares will be kept as a protected green area.
