STATUS
In progress
Restoration and extension of the Royal Conservatories of Music in Brussels.
The project envisions a transformative renewal, orchestrating a harmonious integration of redesigned interior gardens that open gracefully to the city. It entails the meticulous restoration and upgrading of nine historic, listed buildings, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, to meet modern standards of acoustic and thermal comfort, essential for music education. Among these revered structures are the iconic Great Concert Hall, designed by architect J.P. Cluysenaar, and the distinguished Hôtel de Maître, located on Rue aux Laines and Place du Petit Sablon.
The endeavor introduces a newly conceived interior courtyard as its focal point, around which the buildings’ restoration and extension unfold. The project also includes the creation of a new Chamber Music Room, an Orchestra Rehearsal Room, four master classrooms, and approximately fifteen additional music classrooms, offering a contemporary setting while preserving the rich history and architectural legacy of this distinguished institution.
