The Jardin du Kinsendael represents the transformation of a former industrial site—once home to the Illochroma printing works and office spaces—into a new urban quarter combining residential and economic activities.
Located in the southern part of the site, between Rue du Bourdon and the railway, the project introduces a mixed-use program of housing, productive spaces, and a retail unit, tailored to the needs of the Bourdon neighborhood.
The project’s ambition is to breathe new life into this long-forgotten plot by creating an urban island nestled within a lush green setting—an interface between city and nature.
The site's steep topography inspired a terraced architectural approach, enabling a gentle transition between the northern part of the site, the public realm, and the higher ground. This design strategy allows for human-scale interventions, while opening up views and reducing the visual impact of the built volumes.
The façades adopt a contemporary and welcoming language, combining wood, soft curves, brick, and architectural concrete banding.
The residences open outward through loggias on the front façade and balconies at the rear, subtly integrated into the main volume, yet strategically offset to create visual connections to the heart of the block.
