This renovation project transforms an old office building into 50 high-quality apartments with modern architecture and durable materials. It features an interior garden, loggias, terraces, and exceptional views, while maximizing natural light and energy efficiency.
This project, located in the heart of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, is a striking transformation of an existing office building into a modern residential complex with 50 high-quality apartments. Designed by A2RC ARCHITECTS, the renovation involves a complete overhaul of both the interior and exterior of the building, turning it into a vibrant, contemporary living space while maintaining a strong connection to the original structure.
The building’s light-coloured fine brick cladding gives it a refined, timeless aesthetic, while its modern architectural details, including the innovative staircase design, enhance the overall look. The thoughtful orientation of the apartments ensures that each enjoys optimal exposure to natural light, which is further amplified by large windows and expansive bay areas. This design choice contributes to a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding environment.
A key feature of the design is the shifting volumes at the upper levels, which allow for the inclusion of penthouses with exceptional views. These upper-floor setbacks also serve to reduce the mass of the building and allow it to blend more seamlessly into the surrounding urban context. The volume is carefully articulated, with loggias and terraces incorporated along the street facades and within the interior of the block. These elements create a dynamic rhythm on the exterior, enlivening the building and providing residents with outdoor spaces to enjoy.
At the heart of the project is an interior garden, a serene green space that offers a peaceful retreat amid the urban landscape, enhancing the quality of life for the building’s residents. This garden, along with the various terraces and loggias, introduces natural elements that break up the more rigid urban fabric and provide a quiet escape from the bustle of city life.
The choice of high-quality, durable materials throughout the building speaks to the project’s commitment to long-term sustainability and energy efficiency. The apartments are designed to meet modern standards of comfort and energy performance, ensuring that the spaces are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and environmentally responsible.
This renovation offers an excellent example of how thoughtful design can transform an existing structure into a vibrant and sustainable living environment, blending modernity with timeless elegance.
